Gasoline (petrol, CAS 86290-81-5) is a volatile, flammable liquid blend of hydrocarbons refined from crude oil, typically light amber to colourless, used primarily as spark-ignition engine fuel.

Transport fuel: the dominant use, sold in grades such as 92#, 95#, and 0# diesel-equivalent octane ratings; national average 92# prices sit around 8.2–8.4 yuan/litre, with 95# approaching 9 yuan/litre.
Tax structure: roughly 35–40% of China's pump price comprises consumption tax, VAT, and surcharges, leaving an untaxed base near 3.47 yuan/litre.
Regional pricing: Hainan prices run higher because they bundle highway fees; US pump prices vary widely by state.
Industrial feedstock: also feeds petrochemical and blending operations.
