Naphtha (petroleum), light alkylate (CAS 64741-66-8) is a colourless, volatile liquid with a density of 0.72 g/cm³ at 20 °C and water solubility of 6.24 mg/L. It is a light petroleum distillate fraction (boiling range roughly 35–180 °C) composed of C5–C10 hydrocarbons, and serves as the foundational feedstock for modern petrochemicals.

Industrial: the "flour of industry" — steam cracking yields ethylene and propylene, while catalytic reforming produces benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX).
Plastics & rubber: downstream polymers become PE, PP, PVC, ABS resins, polystyrene, and styrene-butadiene rubber.
Solvents & coatings: toluene and xylene derivatives are used in inks, paints, and diluents.
Semiconductors: naphtha-derived resins, elastomers, and PGMEA feed photoresist and equipment consumables.
Food chain: ethylene derived from naphtha is used to ripen imported bananas and other fruit.

China is a major naphtha producer and consumer, with output concentrated in eastern coastal refining hubs; imports supplement domestic supply. The industry is shifting from fuel-oriented to chemical-oriented refining, expanding chemical feedstock availability. Cracking accounts for the majority of demand, followed by reforming.
