Benchmarked against Shandong, n-butanol settled at 8,300–8,400 CNY/mt today, in line with the morning forecast. Domestic n-butanol prices rose sharply today. Feedstock propylene climbed for consecutive sessions on the back of stronger crude oil, further reinforcing high-cost support. Meanwhile, turnaround units have not yet fully returned to operation, and producers are running with low inventories, keeping spot supply limited. Downstream buying interest increased, and market inquiry and transaction sentiment improved.

3. Production Update

Today, domestic n-butanol capacity utilization was 76%. With feedstock propylene prices rising, n-butanol is currently earning a profit of around 619 CNY/mt.

4. Price Forecast

At present, feedstock propylene is expected to keep strengthening, sustaining strong cost pressure and reinforcing price support. Downstream buying interest is improving, and market inquiry and transactions are active. As turnaround units have yet to resume operations and producer inventories remain low, market supply is limited. N-butanol prices are expected to rise.

5. Related Products

Octanol market: The domestic octanol market moved up today, mainly driven by the cost side, with octanol profit margins narrowing notably. Mainstream producers are supplying contract customers, leaving limited spot availability. Demand from rigid buyers was moderate, and transaction prices drifted gradually higher. Near-term market sentiment is improving, with higher offers heard in the secondary market.

The n-butanol hike is driven by propylene feedstock costs and tight supply; downstream butyl acrylate margins stay thin at 56% capacity utilization, so sustainability depends on demand.
