Butyl Acrylate Morning Briefing (2026-09-09)

Published on 2026-09-09

I. Key Points

  1. East China propylene prices widened upward sharply. By the close of trading, the mainstream price in the East China market was 9,450 CNY/mt ex-tank; the Ningbo mainstream price was 9,250 CNY/mt ex-tank; and the delivered price to southern Jiangsu was referenced at around 9,700 CNY/mt. A few enterprises in the region suspended sales, tightening the flow of market supply. Meanwhile, the mainstream market trended stronger, further boosting trading sentiment. Downstream plants followed up actively, pulling the center of actual transactions substantially higher.

  2. The Jiangsu n-butanol market was referenced at 8,200-8,300 CNY/mt ex-warehouse. Market prices held in a sideways consolidation. Supply was limited, downstream players operated cautiously, and inquiries and transaction volumes were concentrated at the lower end of the price range. Feedstock propylene advanced sharply, providing strong cost-side support.

II. Price Table

Unit: CNY/mt

Product Region Sep 7 Sep 8 Change
Propylene East China 9200-9250 9450-9450 250/200
n-Butanol East China 8200-8300 8200-8300 0/0
Acrylic Acid East China 7600-7700 7600-7700 0/0
Butyl Acrylate East China 9050-9150 9150-9250 100/100
Adhesive Tape Jumbo Roll Jiangyin 10200-10400 10200-10400 0/0
Notes: 1. Products are priced as RMB tax-inclusive, unit: CNY/mt.
2. The prices for the two dates are point-in-time prices of the previous two trading days.
3. The change is the period-over-period change.

Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate market continued its firm upward trend. Feedstock n-butanol consolidated within a range, keeping the cost side of butyl acrylate broadly stable with minor fluctuations, while propylene moved up sharply. Sellers maintained high-level offers and firm quotes. Some downstream plants followed up with inquiries for rigid demand, and the center of actual transaction negotiations remained firm and rising. Today, feedstock n-butanol is highly likely to fluctuate upward under cost-side influence, and the butyl acrylate market is expected to remain firm at high levels. Going forward, close attention should be paid to changes in market supply and downstream demand for direction.

III. Data Table

Data Type Aug 27 Sep 3 Change Outlook
Acrylic acid industry capacity utilization rate 68.54% 70.70% 2.16%
Butyl acrylate industry capacity utilization rate 56.93% 56.32% -0.61%
Acrylic acid industry production profit margin 3.72% -3.29% -7.01%
Butyl acrylate industry production profit margin -6.85% -10.60% -3.75%
1. Capacity utilization rate is the ratio of production plant output to capacity, reflecting production activity.
2. Production profit margin is industry-level data, reflecting the overall profitability of the industry in mainstream regions; it is calculated as the ratio of industry profit to price.
3. The data for the two periods are point-in-time figures for the two working weeks prior to this week, not weekly averages.
4. The change is the period-over-period change.

Propylene's sharp spike is squeezing butyl acrylate margins, but strong cost support and steady offtake should keep prices firm. Expect near-term strength, though feedstock volatility remains the key risk to watch.
