Butyl Acrylate Morning Briefing (2026-09-08)

Published on 2026-09-08

I. Key Points

  1. Propylene prices in East China declined. By market close, the mainstream ex-tank price in East China was 9,225 yuan/ton; the mainstream ex-tank price in Ningbo was 9,250 yuan/ton; and the delivered price in the Sunan (southern Jiangsu) area was around 9,450 yuan/ton. Dragged down by the weakening main market, regional offers moved lower. Market participants mainly followed up based on rigid demand, and trading showed no marked improvement.

  2. The reference price for n-butanol in Jiangsu was 8,200–8,300 yuan/ton ex-warehouse. Market prices steadied into consolidation, with a stronger wait-and-see atmosphere. Downstream players operated cautiously. Inquiries and transactions were concentrated at the lower end of the price range, while higher-priced deals decreased.

II. Price Table

Unit: yuan/ton

Product Region Sep 4 Sep 7 Change
Propylene East China 9400-9500 9200-9250 -200/-250
n-Butanol East China 8200-8300 8200-8300 0/0
Acrylic acid East China 7600-7700 7600-7700 0/0
Butyl acrylate East China 9050-9150 9050-9150 0/0
Adhesive tape jumbo roll Jiangyin 10200-10400 10200-10400 0/0

Notes:

  1. Product prices are in RMB, tax-inclusive, unit: yuan/ton.
  2. The two quoted prices are point-in-time prices of the previous two trading days.
  3. The change rate reflects the period-on-period magnitude of change.

Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate market consolidated at high levels. As feedstock n-butanol supply increased, n-butanol prices moved with a stable-to-weak tone, which slightly eased cost-side pressure on butyl acrylate. Holders continued to offer at high levels and kept quotations firm. Some downstream plants followed up with inquiries based on rigid demand, while actual transaction negotiations remained consolidated at high levels. Today, feedstock n-butanol is more likely to fluctuate and consolidate in a range, and the butyl acrylate market is expected to continue its high-level consolidation. Going forward, close attention should be paid to changes in market supply and downstream demand for directional guidance.

III. Data Sheet

Data Type Aug 27 Sep 3 Change Expectation
Acrylic acid industry capacity utilization 68.54% 70.70% 2.16%
Butyl acrylate industry capacity utilization 56.93% 56.32% -0.61%
Acrylic acid industry production profit margin 3.72% -3.29% -7.01%
Butyl acrylate industry production profit margin -6.85% -10.60% -3.75%

Notes:

  1. Capacity utilization rate is the ratio of plant output to capacity for producing enterprises, reflecting production conditions.
  2. Production profit margin is industry-level data, reflecting the overall profitability of the industry in mainstream regions; it is calculated as the ratio of industry profit to price.
  3. The values for the two periods are point-in-time values for the two working weeks before this week, not weekly averages.
  4. The change rate is the period-on-period rate of change.

Propylene's drop trims feedstock cost, but butyl acrylate stays firm. Acrylic acid utilization rose while butyl acrylate slipped; I expect cautious consolidation unless downstream demand improves.
