Lithium hydroxide (LiOH, CAS 1310-65-2) is a white, strongly alkaline crystalline solid with a density of 1.43 g/cm³, a melting point of 470 °C (decomposing), and a boiling point of 925 °C. It is a key lithium source for synthesizing cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries.

Battery-grade: used as the primary lithium source for high-nickel layered cathodes such as NCM811, NCA, and NCMA, where its lower melting point enables lithium insertion at milder sintering temperatures.
Industrial-grade: applied in lubricating greases, carbon dioxide absorption, and other chemical manufacturing processes.
Conversion intermediate: interconvertible with lithium carbonate via causticization, linking the two lithium salt markets.

China's production landscape is dominated by battery-grade lithium hydroxide, with output mainly derived from spodumene ore via sulfuric acid roasting and cooling crystallization. The country is a major global producer and exporter, with capacity concentrated among leading lithium processors.
