Weekly Butadiene Inventory Statistics in China (Oct 22–28, 2026)

Published on 2026-10-29

During the reporting period (October 22–28, 2026), domestic butadiene inventories increased, with total sample inventory rising by 3.31% compared to the previous week. Specifically, inventory at sample enterprises decreased by 4.25% week-on-week, as several domestic plants underwent scheduled maintenance shutdowns while downstream users maintained steady procurement based on essential demand. In contrast, port inventory among sample facilities rose by 10.29% from the prior week, driven by the arrival of imported cargoes during the period, which offset normal consumption by downstream raw material users.

Sample Description:
The butadiene producer inventory data covers stocks held by PetroChina, Sinopec, and other producers, representing approximately 45% of total domestic butadiene production capacity. The sample includes 19 producer enterprises.

Port inventory data reflects sample stock levels in East China, with commercial tank farms accounting for 100% of the coverage. This sample comprises 9 tank farm sites, including 4 commercial tank farms and 5 enterprise-owned feedstock tank farms.

Definition:
Inventory figures for Chinese butadiene producers and sample tank farms represent physical stock levels, defined as the actual quantity of product present in storage facilities at a specific point in time.

Statistical Methodology:
Chempricehub collects Chinese butadiene inventory data every Wednesday. The weekly report is released before 17:00 on each business day Thursday.

Port stock surge of 10.29% worries me despite producer drawdowns. With imports outpacing downstream demand, we risk a margin squeeze if capacity utilization stays low. I expect near-term price pressure as the market dige..
