Weekly Butadiene Inventory Data in China (Oct 8–14, 2026)

Published on 2026-10-15

During the current period (October 8–14, 2026), domestic butadiene inventories increased, with total sample inventory rising by 2.50% week-over-week.

Specifically, inventory at sampled production enterprises decreased by 5.25% compared to the previous week. This decline was driven by shutdowns at certain domestic units and opportunistic restocking by downstream consumers taking advantage of lower prices. Conversely, inventory at sampled ports rose by 8.46% week-over-week. During the week, a small volume of imported butadiene arrived via sea freight, supplementing domestic supply sources. Meanwhile, downstream consumption of raw materials remained normal, leading to an overall increase in port inventories.

Sample Description:

  • Production Enterprise Inventory: Refers to stocks held by PetroChina, Sinopec, and other producers, representing 45% of China’s total butadiene production capacity. The sample includes 19 enterprises.
  • Port Inventory: Refers to stocks in the East China region, where commercial tank farms account for 100% of the sample coverage. The sample comprises 9 tank farm sites, including 4 commercial tank farms and 5 enterprise-owned feedstock tank farms.

Definition:
The reported inventories for Chinese butadiene production enterprises and sampled tank farms represent physical stock levels, defined as the quantity of product physically present in warehouses at a specific point in time.

Statistical Methodology:
Chempricehub collects data on Chinese butadiene inventories every Wednesday. Reports are published before 17:00 on each business Thursday.
