Rising costs lead to temporary stability in dimethyl ether prices

Published on 2026-10-23
  1. Key Focus Points for Today

① ICE Brent crude oil futures (December contract) closed at $113.17/barrel, rising by $4.35/barrel (+4.00% week-on-week).
② The methanol market in Henan Province saw price increases, with enterprises fulfilling existing orders for shipment.

  1. Market Trends and Outlook

Table 1: Summary of Domestic Dimethyl Ether (DME) Prices (Unit: CNY/ton)

Market Previous Period Current Period Change % Change
Shandong 5800 5800 0 0.00%
Henan 5700 5700 0 0.00%
Southwest 5200 5200 0 0.00%
Northwest 5400 5400 0 0.00%

Using the Henan region as a benchmark, DME prices closed today at 5,700 CNY/ton, remaining flat compared to the previous period. The DME market operated steadily today. Raw material methanol prices continued to rise, strengthening costs. Coupled with reduced supply within the market, this injected upward momentum into a market that has been consolidating at high levels. Currently, the market maintains stable prices, with downstream purchases driven primarily by rigid demand. Traders remain largely cautious and adopt a wait-and-see attitude. Chempricehub Intelligence expects the DME market to continue trading at stable prices in the short term.

  1. Related Product Markets

Methanol: Today, the domestic methanol market maintained its strong performance. Futures traded firmly, leading port prices to follow suit. Buyers pursued rigid demand, resulting in slightly weaker intraday basis differentials. Both production and sales markets in inland regions showed volatile upward trends. Upstream enterprise inventories remain low and controllable. Reports indicate ongoing consolidation of domestic methanol at ports, supported by trader replenishment orders and rigid downstream procurement. Overall, supply-demand balance in inland regions remains relatively stable, and the market is expected to maintain a strong trend in the short term. Additionally, attention should be paid to the pace of restarts from domestic maintenance projects and the progress of new plant commissioning in Ningxia.

Rising methanol costs are squeezing DME margins, yet prices hold flat due to rigid downstream demand. With low inventories and cautious traders waiting for clarity, I expect this temporary stability to break soon if feed..
