However, due to recent sugarcane production shortfalls and rising sugar prices, the government has adjusted its policy to prioritize domestic sugar supply. This shift has led to a slowdown in ethanol procurement by state agencies, thereby suppressing domestic ethanol prices in India and alleviating the upward pressure on global sugar-based ethanol prices.
