Compared with acetone, it offers similar dissolving power but with lower toxicity and less irritation, making it safer for workers. Against ethyl acetate, methyl acetate provides a broader solvency range for nitrocellulose, resins, and other materials, plus faster drying, which boosts production efficiency. Its main drawback versus ethyl acetate is slightly lower compatibility in complex formulations. Versus toluene, methyl acetate is far more environmentally friendly and meets stricter VOC regulations, though toluene retains an edge in dissolving certain resins.
