Phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄, CAS 7664-38-2) is a colourless, odourless, water-miscible liquid with a melting point of 21°C and a boiling point of 158°C. It is a fundamental inorganic acid serving as a building block for biological molecules and a key industrial intermediate.

Biological & biochemical: a core component of DNA, RNA, and ATP, where it forms phosphate-sugar backbones and high-energy phosphate bonds essential for genetic information storage and cellular energy transfer.
Food & feed: used as an acidulant in beverages and as a source of soluble phosphorus in feed-grade calcium phosphates such as dicalcium phosphate (DCP) and monocalcium phosphate (MCP).
Industrial: a raw material for phosphate salts, flame retardants, metal treatment agents, and detergents, including sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP).
