DABCO, also known as triethylenediamine (TEDA), is primarily consumed as a catalyst in polyurethane foam, rubber, and coating production. Its dual tertiary amine structure makes it a strong base and nucleophile, which is why it is also used in epoxy resin curing and ethylene polymerization. Beyond traditional uses, recent developments highlight its role in fine chemical synthesis, including copper-catalyzed reactions in pharmaceutical manufacturing. For example, DABCO has been used as a co-crystallizing agent to improve intermediate purity in drug production, enhancing process reproducibility. In agrochemicals, it serves as an initiator to boost production efficiency, and it is also applied as an environmentally friendly additive in cyanide-free electroplating. These diverse applications across polyurethanes, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and electroplating underpin steady demand growth, though the polyurethane sector remains the dominant volume driver.
