What are the key downstream applications and trade dynamics for isopropylamine?
Isopropylamine is a versatile intermediate with its largest demand coming from agrochemicals, accounting for roughly 42% of fatty amine consumption. Key pesticide applications include glyphosate isopropylamine salt, atrazine, and bentazone. The pharmaceutical sector follows at about 18%, using it for drugs like propranolol and other active ingredients. Other uses span rubber vulcanization accelerators, surfactants, and water treatment chemicals. On the trade front, China has been a net exporter since 2001, with exports reaching 29,000 tonnes in 2025. However, recent export controls on agricultural chemicals to secure domestic supply for spring planting have temporarily narrowed export channels. The product's hazardous nature (UN1221, Class 3+8, PG I) adds logistical complexity, requiring special handling for sea freight, including port-side loading and segregation rules for corrosive materials.

Don't overlook the logistics angle. With stricter export controls and hazardous cargo regulations, lead times for international buyers are stretching. If you're sourcing from China, factor in potential delays and higher freight costs—it's not just about the product price anymore.
