According to Chempricehub’s weekly data, the average weekly profit for n-butanol stood at 73 yuan per ton this week, down by 115 yuan per ton from the previous period. This decline was primarily driven by consecutive drops in feedstock propylene prices and the commissioning of new n-butanol capacity, which weakened market demand. As a result, the price center of gravity for n-butanol continued to slide, with its price drop exceeding that of its raw materials, leading to compressed gross margins for domestic n-butanol producers. Specifically, the average weekly price of propylene fell by 134 yuan per ton, while n-butanol prices dropped by 198 yuan per ton, resulting in reduced profitability.

Methodology notes:
The calculation of n-butanol profit is based on the difference between ex-factory prices and production costs. Chempricehub tracks profits for n-butanol produced via the carbonylation process in Shandong Province. The reported weekly average profit reflects the mainstream ex-factory gross margin for n-butanol in the Shandong region. The statistical period runs from Friday of the previous week through Thursday of the current week, with data released between 13:30 and 17:00 on Thursdays (business days).
