Petroleum benzene output totaled 391,000 tons in the current period, down 4,800 tons from the previous period (-1.21%). Capacity utilization stood at 66.04%, down 0.81 percentage points from the prior period. During this period, units including Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical and Zibo Junchen were shut down for scheduled maintenance.
The operating rate of domestic benzene hydrogenation units was 67.99%, down 2.17 percentage points from last week. China's hydrogenated benzene output reached 90,200 tons this week, down 2,900 tons from the prior week. Units at Hebei Ruixin Jinhua and Puyang Shengyuan were restarted during the week, and Hebei Rongte raised its operating load; however, Zhanhua Yukai, Shandong Laigang, Shandong Huineng Phase I, Henan Yutian Phase I, and Qian'an Jiujiang units were all shut down.
This week, capacity utilization among the key downstream products—styrene, caprolactam, phenol, adipic acid, and aniline—declined period-on-period.
In styrene, in addition to Zibo Junchen and Zhejiang Petrochemical's ethylbenzene dehydrogenation units entering scheduled maintenance, one styrene unit in Shandong and two in East China were temporarily shut down due to equipment failures, and a few other units saw slight load reductions. As a result, styrene supply declined notably overall, dragging down both output and capacity utilization.
In the domestic phenol/acetone segment, Gaoqiao Petrochemical began scheduled maintenance on May 12, and some other phenol/acetone units also slightly reduced their operating loads. In caprolactam, Luxi Chemical underwent maintenance, with the combined load of its three units falling to 50%. In aniline, the Jinling and Nanjing Chemical units were being brought back online and ramping up loads; Jiangsu Yangnong had not yet returned, and Shanghai BASF was shut down for maintenance. In adipic acid, one unit at Jiangsu Haili was shut down during the week; the Taihua unit operated at low load for a short time; and the Haoyuan unit has been running at half load since May 14 due to an operational issue.
