Morning Market Update: Dimethyl Ether (DME)

Published on 2026-10-13

I. Key Points

  1. ICE Brent crude oil futures (December contract) closed at USD 106.65/bbl, up USD 1.93/bbl (+1.84% WoW).
  2. Feedstock methanol prices remained stable in major production regions.

Core Logic: Weak supply and weak demand in the market.

Product Region Previous Period Current Period Change (%)
Dimethyl Ether (DME) Shandong 5,800 5,800 0.00%
DME Henan 5,700 5,700 0.00%
DME Southwest China 5,200 5,200 0.00%
DME Northwest China 4,800 4,800 0.00%
Notes: 1. DME prices are in CNY per ton. 2. All listed CNY prices are ex-factory cash settlement prices including tax. 3. Prices represent point-in-time values from the two preceding working weeks of this week, not weekly averages. 4. The change rate is calculated on a week-over-week basis.

III. Market Outlook

The dimethyl ether (DME) market operated steadily during the morning session. Although feedstock methanol prices declined significantly, alleviating cost pressures, the lagged cost pass-through effect in Southwest China supported price strength in Chongqing. In other domestic regions, prices remained largely stable, while trading activity was mediocre. Chempricehub forecasts that the DME market will stabilize and consolidate in the short term.

Data Item Release Time Previous Period Expected Trend for Current Period
Weekly DME Output Thursday 16:00 PM 7,300 tons ↓
Weekly DME Operating Rate Thursday 16:00 PM 4.80% ↓
Notes: 1. ↑↓ indicates significant fluctuation, highlighting data dimensions with changes exceeding 3%. 2. ↗↘ indicates minor fluctuation, highlighting data dimensions with changes within 0-3%.

Weak supply and demand keep DME prices flat. Stable methanol feedstock costs ease margin pressure, but lagged pass-through supports regional strength. I expect continued mediocre trading activity until downstream demand ..
