Morning Market Update: Aniline

Published on 2026-10-20

I. Key Focus Areas

Pure Benzene: Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine remain unstable, though the U.S. has waived certain sanctions against Russia, leading to mixed movements in international crude oil prices. ICE Brent futures for the December contract closed at $109.55 per barrel, down $0.31 or 0.28% from the previous session. Yesterday, East China night session prices rebounded after an initial decline supported by crude oil trends. However, sales performance at Shandong local refineries remained sluggish. It is expected that East China spot prices will fluctuate with a wait-and-see attitude during today’s morning session, while Shandong prices may open lower and trend downward.

II. Price Table

Region Oct. 20 Oct. 19 Change
East China 16,750 16,550 +200
Shandong 16,500 16,300 +200

1. The RMB prices listed for East China are ex-factory, acceptance bill, tax-inclusive prices. The RMB prices for Shandong are ex-factory, cash settlement prices.
2. The prices represent point-in-time values from the two preceding weeks, not weekly averages.
3. The change value reflects the period-over-period variation.

III. Data Table

Aniline Industry Supply-Demand Data
Metric 2026/10/15 2026/10/8 Change Rate Next Week Forecast
Capacity Utilization 84.44% 87.68% -3.24% ↓
Production Profit Margin 25.10% / / ↑
Output 8.63 8.96 -0.33 ↓
1. Capacity utilization refers to the ratio of actual production output to total capacity, serving as an indicator of production levels.
2. Production profit margin is industry-wide data reflecting the overall profitability across mainstream regions, calculated as the ratio of industry profit to average price.
3. Output represents the domestic aniline industry’s weekly production capacity, measured in ten thousand tons.

IV. Market Outlook

Unplanned shutdowns at northern plants for equipment replacement have created new disruptions to spot market supply, further tightening availability and supporting continued modest gains in aniline prices. Currently, downstream demand remains largely unchanged, keeping overall market demand relatively stable.

Aniline’s tighter supply from plant shutdowns lifted prices despite stable downstream demand. I worry that falling capacity utilization could squeeze margins if feedstock costs stay volatile, making the rebound fragile ..
