Morning Market Brief: Acrylic Emulsion

Published on 2026-10-16

I. Key Points

  1. Oct 15: Supply risks persisted due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, while market sentiment regarding global demand remained pessimistic, leading to mixed movements in international crude oil prices. The NYMEX WTI November contract rose by $2.88/bbl to $97.97/bbl (+3.03% DoD); the ICE Brent December contract fell by $0.14/bbl to $105.92/bbl (-0.13% DoD). The INE crude oil futures December 26 contract dropped by CNY 21.3 to CNY 725.2/bbl, then rebounded by CNY 0.8 to CNY 726/bbl during the night session.
  2. Yesterday, the domestic MMA (methyl methacrylate) market fluctuated within a narrow range. Holders showed willingness to sell, with some offering slight discounts. Downstream buyers maintained a cautious stance, and transactions were limited to essential needs. In the short term, volatility in the domestic MMA market is expected to remain limited.
  3. Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate market trended weakly amid fluctuations. Upstream propylene prices edged down slightly, while feedstocks n-butanol and acrylic acid prices stabilized at lower levels. Cost pressure on butyl acrylate eased somewhat. Holders adjusted offers based on market trends, while downstream users purchased according to need and price acceptance. High-end prices disappeared, trading sentiment was lackluster, and the market's transaction center of gravity fluctuated weakly. Today, the butyl acrylate market is expected to continue stabilizing at a weak level. Attention should be paid to future supply conditions and the restart status of downstream units.

III. Market Outlook

Yesterday, raw materials such as MMA, butyl acrylate, and styrene saw narrow downward movements, slightly alleviating cost pressures. Acrylic emulsion manufacturers displayed strong wait-and-see attitudes, mostly maintaining stable pricing for their offers. Downstream users adopted a "buy-as-needed" approach, keeping market negotiations steady. Today, the raw material market is expected to trend weakly within a narrow range, continuing to ease cost-side pressures. Acrylic emulsion producers and traders are adjusting offers flexibly to move inventory, while downstream users engage in price inquiries and negotiations. The acrylic emulsion market is likely to run smoothly. Future attention should focus on dynamics in the raw material markets (butyl acrylate, MMA, styrene) and the downstream sector.

Weak downstream demand for MMA and butyl acrylate keeps acrylic emulsion prices soft. While easing feedstock costs help margins, low capacity utilization limits upside potential until market sentiment improves.
