Based on the Shandong region benchmark, formaldehyde closed at 1,530 yuan/ton today, up 1.32% from the previous period. The formaldehyde market rose today. Feedstock methanol surged, sharply lifting costs, and plants in Guangxi, Anhui, Henan and other regions reduced operating rates under cost pressure. The broader domestic market showed a strong sentiment to follow the upward move, but gains were capped by weakening operating rates in the downstream wood-based panel sector. Chempricehub Information expects the formaldehyde market to continue rising in the short term.
Methanol: China's domestic methanol market continued its strong rally today, with futures hitting the daily limit again in the afternoon. With tight spot supply at ports and in inland markets, coupled with rigid restocking demand from downstream buyers ahead of the two festivals, the overall market atmosphere for buying and selling remained robust. Intraday gains surpassed 100 yuan/ton in most markets, and some areas within Xinjiang saw even more pronounced increases. In the short term, given the fairly sound supply-demand situation, the market is expected to remain strong at high levels. Attention should be paid to freight rate changes and futures fluctuations.
