Cost Support Rebounds; Formaldehyde Prices Stabilize with a Slight Downward Trend

Published on 2026-10-14
  1. Today's Key Focus

① Formaldehyde market stable with slight decline
② Domestic methanol market center of gravity pulled back

  1. Today's Market Trends and Future Outlook

Table 1: Summary of Domestic Formaldehyde Prices (Unit: RMB/ton)

Market Previous Period Current Period Change Value Change Rate
Southern Shandong 1900 1840 -60 -3.16%
Henan 1850 1850 0 0.00%
Anhui 1850 1750 -100 -5.41%
Guangxi 2050 1900 -150 -7.32%
Guangdong 2000 2000 0 0.00%

Based on the Shandong region, formaldehyde closed at 1,840 RMB/ton today, a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 3.16%. The formaldehyde market remained generally stable but saw some declines. Costs halted their decline and began to rise as raw material methanol entered an upward channel. Most formaldehyde plants had experienced limited price drops previously. Affected by cautious downstream demand sentiment, some plants continued to adjust prices downward to maintain market presence, while others maintained stable prices supported by reduced supply due to restrictions on National VI emission standard transport vehicles, primarily fulfilling orders from previous periods. Chempricehub anticipates that the formaldehyde market may stabilize in the short term.

  1. Related Product Markets

Methanol: Trading activity in the domestic methanol market improved slightly today. Futures prices rose then fell back. Coastal regions saw stronger basis levels intraday due to tight near-term supply combined with replenishment demand. In inland markets, prices stopped falling and rebounded slightly in several areas driven by short-covering purchases and essential downstream demand. However, overall downstream demand remains average. Additionally, some olefin enterprises continue to sell off raw materials externally, and inland supply is gradually becoming more relaxed. Consequently, mid- and downstream buyers remain cautious about chasing higher prices. The market is expected to trend within a narrow range in the short term.

Formaldehyde prices are stabilizing as rising methanol feedstock costs offset weak downstream demand. Tight supply from transport restrictions is preventing deeper declines, though cautious buyers may limit margin recove..
