China Sulfur Production Data Analysis (September 2026)

Published on 2026-10-29

China Sulfur Production: September 2026

In September 2026, China's sulfur production reached 891,800 metric tons (mt), an increase of 34,800 mt from the previous period. This represents a month-on-month (MoM) growth of 4.06% and a year-on-year (YoY) decline of 11.32%.

II. Production Trend Forecast Analysis

In October 2026, supply reductions were notable among enterprises such as Dalian Hengli, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Shenghe Refining & Chemical, Maoming Petrochemical, Guoxing Petrochemical, and Xinhai Refining. Conversely, significant supply increases were observed at Dalian West Pacific, Yanshan Petrochemical, Yangzi Petrochemical, Shijiazhuang Refining & Chemical, Tianjin Petrochemical, Jinling Petrochemical, Datang Energy, Gaoqiao Petrochemical, Zhanjiang Dongxing, and Lijin Petrochemical. Overall, the number of enterprises increasing output outweighed those decreasing it.

III. Comparison of Production Trends and Product Prices

In September 2026, China's monthly sample sulfur production increased by 2.57% MoM but decreased by 16.62% YoY. As sulfur is primarily a byproduct derived from crude oil, natural gas, and coal, its correlation with price fluctuations is relatively low. Production levels are mainly determined by maintenance schedules of producer facilities and sulfur content in feedstocks. Regarding supply, key refineries in East China, along with Zhejiang Petrochemical, Hengli Petrochemical, and Shenghe Refining & Chemical, increased their output. Additionally, Lijin Petrochemical and Datang Duolun resumed production. Enterprises undergoing maintenance included Anqing Petrochemical, Dongying Yatong, Jincheng Petrochemical, and Datang Keqi. Overall, the number of enterprises increasing output outweighed those decreasing it.

Sulfur output rose 4% MoM but remains down 11% YoY, driven by refinery maintenance rather than price signals. With more units ramping up in October, supply pressure may ease margin constraints for downstream producers, t..
