Acrylic Emulsion Market Morning Briefing (20260909)

Published on 2026-09-09

Key Focus Points

  1. 9/8: Houthi forces attacked Saudi oil facilities, and the US–Iran military conflict continued, with supply risks pushing international oil prices higher. NYMEX crude futures for October delivery rose US$1.55/bbl to US$93.03, up 1.69% from the previous session; ICE Brent crude futures for November delivery rose US$0.92/bbl to US$97.92, up 0.95% from the previous session. China's INE crude futures 2610 contract gained 14.8 yuan/bbl to close at 703.3 yuan/bbl, and added another 11.4 yuan/bbl to 714.7 yuan/bbl in night trading.

  2. Domestic MMA market trading was limited yesterday. Acetone rose sharply, keeping feedstock costs at elevated levels and increasing cost pressure. Overall market fluctuations remained limited, with only small volumes of rigid-demand transactions concluded. The domestic MMA market is expected to consolidate in the short term.

  3. The domestic butyl acrylate market continued its firm upward trend yesterday. Feedstock n-butanol traded in a range, leaving the butyl acrylate cost structure broadly stable with minor changes, while the propylene side moved up sharply. Holders maintained firm offers at high levels; some downstream plants followed up with inquiries to cover rigid demand, and the negotiation focus for actual deals remained firm and moving upward. Today, feedstock n-butanol is more likely to fluctuate upward under cost-side influence, and the butyl acrylate market is expected to remain firm at high levels. Going forward, close attention should be paid to changes in market supply and downstream demand for directional cues.

Market Outlook

Yesterday, the price centers of butyl acrylate and styrene moved upward, while MMA edged down within a narrow range. Feedstock costs remained firm at high levels. Under cost pressure, acrylic emulsion producers tentatively raised offers, and downstream end-users entered the market for rigid-demand purchases, keeping the transaction focus within the existing range. Today, upstream feedstocks are expected to run firm-to-strong at high levels, providing robust cost support. Emulsion plants remain proactive despite cost pressure; downstream is only releasing rigid-demand orders, with procurement still dominated by as-needed restocking. Mainstream transaction prices are expected to remain stable. Going forward, track the dynamics of butyl acrylate, MMA, and styrene feedstocks as well as downstream markets.

Geopolitical oil spikes are pushing feedstock costs up along the acrylic chain, but with downstream demand still rigid, margin recovery looks limited until buyers accept firmer prices.
