Recently, the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission officially announced the list of key projects in Fujian Province for 2026. A number of key petrochemical projects, including the Fujian Gulei 1.5 million tons/year ethylene and downstream deep processing complex project, have been successfully included in the list, which will inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of the province's petrochemical and chemical industry. The list specifies that there are a total of 1,570 key projects in Fujian Province for 2026, with a total investment scale of 4.01 trillion yuan and an annual planned investment of 722.6 billion yuan. The projects cover multiple key areas such as advanced manufacturing, transportation, energy, and people's livelihood, with projects in the advanced manufacturing sector accounting for over 50%, becoming the core engine driving high-quality development. In the petrochemical and chemical industry sector, a total of 59 projects have been selected for the provincial key projects list. By category, there are 37 projects under construction, 20 new projects to start construction, and 2 preparatory projects, forming a benign advancement pattern of "accelerating construction, starting new projects, and preparing reserves." As one of the key petrochemical projects included in the list, the Fujian Gulei 1.5 million tons/year ethylene and downstream deep processing complex project (Saudi Aramco Gulei Ethylene Project) has attracted much attention. With a total investment of 42.07 billion yuan, the project will construct 14 main chemical plants and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2026. Currently, all large-scale equipment lifting tasks have been completed, laying a solid foundation for smooth operation.

List of 59 petrochemical and chemical industry projects selected as provincial key projects

To promote the quality and efficiency of provincial key projects and effectively shoulder the responsibility of a major economic province, Fujian Province has clarified multiple work requirements. It is reported that the province will deepen the hierarchical management system, implement upgraded tracking and key advancement for major projects with investments exceeding 100 million yuan in key projects of prefecture-level cities; strictly align with established goals, consolidate work responsibilities at each stage, and refine implementation paths; strengthen the guarantee of key elements such as funding, land, forest, and sea use, accurately resolve bottlenecks and difficulties in project advancement, ensure coordinated progress in project investment, engineering quality and safety, and ecological and environmental protection, and promote the early landing, construction, and effectiveness of key projects.

The announcement of this key projects list is not only a concrete measure for Fujian Province to anchor its high-quality development goals but also sets the key direction for stable economic growth throughout the year. The accelerated advancement of various key projects will further improve the province's industrial layout, address development shortcomings, and provide strong support for the comprehensive advancement of high-quality development.
