Ceramics: stabilizes zirconia to form yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for dental crowns, ceramic knives, MLCC capacitors, and solid-state battery electrolytes.
Electronics: serves as a key dopant in MLCC ceramic powders, improving insulation and temperature stability.
Optics & lasers: raw material for YAG laser crystals and phosphors used in LED lighting and displays.
Aerospace & energy: used in thermal barrier coatings for turbine blades and as a component in YBCO high-temperature superconducting materials.

China dominates global production, with over 90% of separation capacity concentrated domestically.
