Xylitol (wood sugar, CAS 16277-71-7) is a white crystalline sugar alcohol with a sweetness comparable to sucrose, a melting point of 94–97 °C, and good water solubility. It is a low-calorie sweetener widely used as a sucrose substitute in food and personal care products.

Food: serves as a sugar substitute in sugar-free confectionery, chewing gum, yogurt, and beverages; it does not cause tooth decay and has a minimal impact on blood glucose.
Pharmaceutical & healthcare: used in oral care products such as toothpaste and mouthwash, and as a low-glycemic energy source suitable for diabetic patients.
