Resorcinol (1,3-dihydroxybenzene, CAS 108-46-3) is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 109–112°C, high water solubility, and a distinctive phenolic odor. It functions as a chemical intermediate, antiseptic, and adhesion promoter across multiple industries.

Cosmetics & personal care: used as an antiseptic and anti-acne agent at 2% OTC levels, and as a building block for whitening derivatives such as phenylethyl resorcinol (SymWhite 377).
Industrial: a key intermediate for azo dyes, fur dyes, UV absorbers, and plastic stabilizers.
Rubber: serves as the "R" component in R-80 masterbatch for bonding rubber to fibers and steel cords via in-situ phenolic resin formation.
Pharmaceutical: an intermediate for para-aminosalicylic acid and used in topical dermatological preparations.
