Dicyandiamide (dicyanodiamide, cyanoguanidine, DICY/DCD, CAS 461-58-5) is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 208–211 °C and moderate water solubility (32 g/L at 20 °C). It functions as a versatile chemical intermediate, a latent epoxy curing agent, and a nitrification inhibitor.

Chemical synthesis: reacts with acids to form guanidine salts and with phenyl nitriles to yield benzoguanamine, an intermediate for coatings, laminates, and molding powders.
Pharmaceuticals: a fine-chemical intermediate for guanidine nitrate, sulfonamide drugs, and active ingredients such as the anticancer agent etoposide and antidepressants.
Agriculture: used in compound fertilizers to slow nitrification, reducing nitrogen loss and improving fertilizer efficiency; also applied as an insecticide and fungicide.
Epoxy resins: a classic heat-activated latent curing agent, dispersed as microparticles for stable room-temperature storage, curing at 160–180 °C within 20–60 minutes.
