Overview

Anthracite (CAS 8029-10-5) is the highest-ranked coal, appearing hard, black, and lustrous with high density and a high ignition point. It burns with little smoke and offers high heat per unit weight, serving as a premium solid fuel and chemical feedstock.

Energy & heating: a clean-burning residential fuel for winter heating, more heat-dense and durable than bituminous coal, though requiring better ventilation.
Chemical industry: a key gasification feedstock for producing synthetic ammonia, methanol, and downstream chemicals.
Metallurgy: used for pulverised coal injection in blast furnaces and as a raw material for carbon products such as electrodes and activated carbon.
Power generation: a niche fuel requiring specially designed boilers, such as W-flame types, for stable combustion.

China holds abundant anthracite reserves, concentrated in Shanxi's Jincheng region, which accounts for a quarter of national reserves.
