Ceramics: acts as a flux in glazes to improve surface hardness, gloss, and corrosion resistance, while reducing pores and preventing discolouration during firing.
Glass: enhances refractive index, hardness, and optical performance in specialty glass products.
Electronics: a precursor for high-purity barium titanate, used in multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and sodium-ion battery cathode materials.
Other industrial: prevents "wind-glaze" defects in clay bodies and is used in barium chemical derivatives.

China dominates global production, led by Hongxing Development with roughly 40% market share and an annual capacity of 290,000 tonnes.
