Will the discovery of the Nd-rich mineral 'Neodymium Huanghe Ore' lower neodymium standard solution costs?
A newly identified mineral in Inner Mongolia, neodymium Huanghe ore, is notable because neodymium is heavily enriched in it. Separating praseodymium from neodymium is one of the hardest steps in rare earth processing, since the two elements behave almost identically; solvent extraction only became efficient after cascade extraction theory was developed and applied in China. If a deposit can be mined with high neodymium content, that separation burden shrinks, cutting refining costs. Neodymium is the most widely used rare earth element, underpinning nearly all NdFeB permanent magnets, and China already produces over 90 percent of global NdFeB output. Cheaper, cleaner neodymium feedstock would feed straight into magnet and standard solution supply chains.
