What is driving stainless steel plate prices in China month to month?
Prices have swung sharply through 2026. April saw broad gains of 6.0-7.0% across 201 and 304 grades, then May's advance narrowed to 2.4-3.6%. By August, 201 rebounded more strongly than 304, with South China leading at 2.1-5.9% for 201. Futures tell the same story: August opened at 14,539 yuan per tonne, peaked at 14,783, then slid to 14,245. Regional divergence is persistent, with North and East China often moving opposite to South and West. Mirror-finish grades have proven the most resilient, while matte and brushed finishes fall fastest in downturns.
