What industries actually consume petcoke beyond fuel burning?
Petcoke is no longer just refinery residue. Its main industrial sink is aluminium carbon: prebaked anode production consumes the bulk of low-sulfur petcoke, and anode export demand keeps that base firm. The fastest-growing outlet is lithium battery anode material, where needle coke and anode-grade coke serve as aggregate, coated with specialty pitch before graphitization. Needle coke also remains the only viable feedstock for ultra-high-power graphite electrodes used in electric-arc steelmaking. Semiconductor, nuclear and aerospace applications absorb small but high-value volumes, which is why premium grades command a structural premium over fuel-grade material.
