What drives the supply-demand balance for UV-9 in China's plastics and coatings sectors?
UV-9 consumption in China is closely tied to downstream sectors like PVC, polystyrene, acrylic resins, and UV-curable coatings. Domestic production is mature, with major output concentrated in benzophenone-type stabilizers, including UV-0, UV-9, and UV-531. Historically, combined consumption of UV-531 and UV-9 was around 500 tonnes annually, with domestic output covering roughly 80% and imports the rest. Growth drivers include expanding agrofilm and engineering plastic applications, plus rising demand for light-stable TPU and polyurethane elastomers. However, competition from hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) like 770 and 944, which offer superior long-term performance, limits UV-9's share in high-end applications.
