Isodecyl alcohol prices are tightly linked to feedstock availability and technology barriers. The main route is hydroformylation of butenes to valeraldehyde, followed by aldol condensation and hydrogenation to 2-PH. BASF's dual-reactor process achieves high n/iso ratios and is the benchmark. China's producers rely on imported technology—Yangzi BASF uses BASF's process, while Shenhua Baotou uses Davy's. Feedstock comes from C4 raffinate, a petrochemical byproduct, so crude oil and refinery runs indirectly affect costs. Global capacity is small and concentrated, giving suppliers pricing power. In China, only three producers exist, so domestic supply is tight and prices often track import parity.
