What drives corn starch prices and supply in China's market?
Corn starch pricing is anchored to feedstock cost: roughly 1.4 tonnes of corn yield one tonne of starch, so corn supply and import flows directly set the floor. On the demand side, starch sugar takes over half of consumption, followed by papermaking and beer, with clear seasonality peaking around New Year, Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn. Industry margins and operating rates move together, and when corn prices spike, food and paper buyers cut usage and plants trim runs. China is a net exporter, shipping mainly to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, so export policy and overseas demand matter as much as domestic offtake.
