“Weekly Statistics of Methanol Sample Profits in China (August 21–27, 2026)”

Published on 2026-08-27

During this period (August 21–27), theoretical profits for methanol production via domestic sample process routes rose significantly. In terms of data, the weekly average profit for coal-based methanol in Inner Mongolia, Northwest China (calculated on a full-cost basis) was RMB 268.90/ton, up RMB 114.00/ton from the previous period, an increase of 73.60% week-on-week. On a cash-flow cost basis, the weekly average profit for this process route was RMB 668.90/ton, up 20.85% week-on-week. The weekly average profit for coke-oven gas-based methanol in Hebei was RMB 929.00/ton, up RMB 245.00/ton from the previous week, up 35.82% week-on-week. The weekly average profit for natural gas-based methanol in Southwest China was RMB 72.00/ton, up RMB 176.00/ton from the previous week, up 168.23% week-on-week. The weekly average profit for coal-based methanol in Shandong was RMB 303.90/ton, up RMB 79.00/ton from the previous week, up 35.13% week-on-week. The weekly average profit for coal-based methanol in Shanxi was RMB 227.70/ton, up RMB 111.00/ton from the previous week, up 95.12% week-on-week.

Sample description: On the day of data release, Chempricehub Information conducts theoretical profit monitoring based on feedstock prices and mainstream methanol transaction prices in China's major methanol-producing regions.

Term explanation: Production gross profit refers to the weekly theoretical gross profit of methanol production enterprises. Depending on the production process, it is divided into weekly average gross profit for coal-based methanol, coke-oven gas-based methanol, and natural gas-based methanol.

Statistical caliber: Methanol gross profit figures from Chempricehub Information are calculated data (derived from methanol market prices and total methanol production costs). Data are released at 15:00 every working Thursday.

These sharp profit jumps look encouraging, but I'm not treating them as a trend yet—feedstock cost and capacity utilization signals need to confirm before downstream demand can absorb higher output.
