As of September 2, 2026, China’s total methanol port inventory stood at 641,500 metric tons, down 44,100 metric tons from the previous data release. East China saw inventory drawdowns, with stocks down 16,500 metric tons; South China also saw drawdowns, with stocks down 27,600 metric tons.
Methanol port inventories continued to draw down this week. During the period, visible unloading from foreign vessels totaled 149,200 metric tons. In Jiangsu, lifting from major tank farm areas along the Yangtze River remained fairly steady, supported by export vessel loadings, so despite replenishment from foreign vessels, inventory fluctuations were limited. In Zhejiang, demand was maintained at essential levels, and with only one foreign vessel providing replenishment, inventories drew down. South China port inventories continued to decrease this week. In Guangdong, no vessel replenishment arrived; lifting from major storage areas was mainly for essential demand, with a small amount of transshipment support, resulting in an inventory drawdown. In Fujian, both imported and domestic cargo vessels arrived, and downstream consumption was limited to essential demand, leaving inventories broadly stable.

Sample description: The methanol port inventory sample covers real-time physical methanol inventory held within 40 domestic storage/tank farm areas, with a sample coverage rate of 75%.
Term definition: Port inventory refers to the total physical inventory of a specific commodity actually stored in warehouses or tanks at ports during a given period, including commodities in bonded zones, but excluding cargo on vessels at the port. Among these, visible inventory and visible unloading refer to the inventory held in storage areas within the statistical sample and the volume discharged into those sampled storage areas; non-visible inventory/unloading is the opposite. In other words, the port inventory currently compiled by this information service does not include Tianjin, Lianyungang, Dalian, Laizhou, Longkou, Nanjing Qingjiang tank farm, Nantong Sinochem tank farm, Shanghai Orient Terminal, Shanghai Vopak Caojing, Zhejiang Zhoushan Yushan Terminal, Sinochem Yangzhou, Guangdong Huizhou Dagang, or Guangdong Maoming Bohe.
Statistical methodology: The methanol port inventory data from Chempricehub Information are real-time inventory data obtained from methanol storage/tank farm areas every Wednesday. These are first-hand statistical data, released at 14:00 every Wednesday (working day).
