As of October 21, 2026, total methanol port inventories in China stood at 363,800 tons, a decrease of 3,400 tons from the previous reporting period. Specifically, inventory levels in East China rose by 17,500 tons, while those in South China fell by 20,900 tons.
This week saw a slight decline in methanol port inventories. During the reporting period, 49,300 tons were recorded as visible imports via foreign vessels; however, certain foreign vessels currently berthed along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province have not yet been included in the tally. In the Jiangsu region, arrivals of domestic waterway cargo and truck deliveries increased significantly. Coupled with the official shutdown of major downstream plants along the river, this resulted in only a marginal drop in inventory levels. In Zhejiang, one foreign vessel and several domestic trade shipments replenished stocks, leading to an inventory buildup driven primarily by traditional baseline demand.
South China ports experienced destocking this week. In Guangdong, supply was limited to minor domestic trade vessel arrivals, with truck withdrawals from mainstream public storage facilities reflecting only essential demand, resulting in a slight reduction in inventory. In Fujian, no vessels arrived during the period, and downstream consumption remained at baseline levels, also contributing to a decrease in inventory.

Sample Description: The methanol port inventory sample covers real-time physical stock levels within 40 domestic storage terminals, achieving a sample coverage rate of 75%.
Terminology Explanation: This metric refers to the total physical inventory of specific commodities actually stored in warehouses or tanks at ports over a defined period. It includes goods located within bonded zones but excludes cargo on board vessels in port. "Visible inventory" and "visible offloading" refer to stocks held within and unloaded into the sampled storage terminals, respectively; "non-visible" refers to the opposite. Currently, the port inventory data compiled by our network does not include Tianjin, Lianyungang, Dalian, Laizhou, Longkou, Nanjing Qingjiang Terminal, Nantong Sinochem Terminal, Shanghai Oriental Wharf, Shanghai Vopak Caojing, Zhejiang Zhoushan Yushan Wharf, Sinochem Yangzhou, Guangdong Huizhou Dagang, and Guangdong Maoming Bohe.
Statistical Methodology: Chempricehub’s methanol port inventory figures represent real-time stock data from terminal sites every Wednesday. These are primary statistical data points, published at 14:00 on Wednesdays (working days).
