Weekly Analysis of Cost and Profit for Sulfuric Acid Samples in China (September 11–17, 2026)

Published on 2026-09-18

I. Qualitative Analysis of Sample Cost and Profit Trends

This week, liquid sulfur prices in East China experienced a slight adjustment, with the reference price for East China liquid sulfur at 7,620 RMB/ton. Based on this price, the raw material cost for sulfuric acid is approximately 2,540 RMB/ton. Although steam recovery from sulfur burning offsets part of the expenses, when including costs for utilities (water and electricity), labor, and equipment depreciation, the total production cost of sulfuric acid stands at 2,441.4 RMB/ton. The current reference market price for sulfuric acid in East China is 2,100 RMB/ton. Among the three production methods, the profit margin for sulfur-burning acid is -314.37 RMB/ton, pyrite-based acid is -234.33 RMB/ton, and smelter-acid byproduct has a profit of 1,020 RMB/ton.

II. Forecast Analysis of Sample Cost Trends

The domestic spot market for port-stored sulfur remained weak and trending downward this week. Market sentiment was characterized by passive wait-and-see attitudes, resulting in sluggish trading activity. Sporadic buyers exerted strong pressure to lower prices, forcing holders of inventory to make further adjustments, thereby maintaining the downtrend. While supply-demand dynamics in the domestic sulfur market remain tight, transaction momentum gradually weakened due to the influence of the port market atmosphere.

III. Comparison of Product Sample Trends and Prices

Raw material prices have undergone slight adjustments, leading to minor fluctuations in recent profit margins. Future changes in costs and prices may result in continued adjustments to profitability.

Seeing sulfur-burning acid margins at -314 RMB/ton is brutal. With feedstock costs rising and downstream demand weak, capacity utilization will likely drop for non-smelter producers. This negative spread highlights the s..
