During this period, domestic DBP market prices surged strongly before consolidating at high levels. Reports indicate that in the early part of the cycle, raw material costs for both n-butanol and phthalic anhydride produced via the naphthalene method rose significantly and continuously, leading to increased production costs and pressure on DBP manufacturers. Additionally, the overall operating load in the DBP market remained low, with some units not yet restarted, resulting in limited supply. These dual positive factors supported a steady increase in market prices. Downstream products maintained essential demand-based purchasing, primarily buying when prices dipped. However, as the weekend approached, resistance to high prices among downstream buyers increased, leading to a decline in overall purchasing intent. Although raw material prices fell slightly from their highs, production costs remained elevated, causing market prices to consolidate at high levels.
The weekly capacity utilization rate for DBP was 38.56%.
As of the close on October 15, the theoretical weekly profit stood at 526 CNY/ton, an increase of 99 CNY/ton from the previous week, representing a growth of 23%. The daily average theoretical profit was 682 CNY/ton, up by 188 CNY/ton compared to October 8.
End-use downstream sectors engaged in opportunistic purchasing based on essential demand ahead of holidays.
