Following the National Day holiday, domestic DOTP prices generally rose, with increases ranging from CNY 250 to 500 per ton compared to pre-holiday levels.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remained volatile around the holiday period. A combination of negotiation disputes and restrictions on strait shipping drove international crude oil prices higher amidst fluctuations, strengthening the broader chemical sector sentiment. Both key DOTP raw materials—isooctyl alcohol and PTA—rose simultaneously, lifting the cost center and boosting market confidence. As downstream end-user demand steadily recovered, coupled with concentrated restocking by factories and short-covering by traders after the holiday, trading activity in DOTP rebounded quickly, leading to a significant increase in transaction volumes. The resonance of cost and demand benefits pushed DOTP prices strongly upward. For instance, in the Zhejiang market, DOTP quotes accumulated an increase of CNY 350 per ton within just three days post-holiday, reaching a latest quote of CNY 10,600 per ton. Currently, the rise in DOTP prices has outpaced the increase in raw material costs, allowing industry profits to recover rapidly.

  1. Analysis of Market Influencing Factors
  1. The capacity utilization rate of domestic DOTP plants declined during this period, with an average load of approximately 56%.

  2. On October 10, the ex-factory price of DOTP in the Zhejiang market was CNY 10,600 per ton, up CNY 350 per ton from pre-holiday levels.

  3. On October 10, the price of DOTP's major raw material, isooctyl alcohol, rose by CNY 150 per ton compared to pre-holiday levels, while the other key raw material, PTA, increased by CNY 380 per ton.

  1. Next Week's Market Forecast

Domestic DOTP prices are expected to maintain a consolidation pattern at high levels next week. The price range in the Zhejiang region is projected to be between CNY 10,500 and 10,800 per ton.

Costs remain the core supporting factor for the DOTP market. Recently, new PTA transactions have been weak, creating downward pressure on prices due to sluggish demand; however, uncertainties persist regarding the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. International crude oil prices are supported by risk-aversion and are likely to remain high, keeping the overall chemical sector strong and providing a floor for PTA prices. Meanwhile, it is difficult for the operating rates of the isooctyl alcohol industry—a core DOTP raw material—to significantly improve in early-to-mid October. Cost pressures on the production side have not yet eased, so isooctyl alcohol prices are expected to remain firm, further solidifying the cost support for DOTP and helping the market maintain its high-level consolidation trend.

DOTP prices jumped 250–500 CNY/ton post-holiday, driven by rising PTA feedstock costs. With capacity utilization at 55.51%, margins improved as hikes outpaced input increases. I expect consolidation next week, though su..
