Soda ash trend is weak, with bottom consolidation.

Published on 2026-07-17

Recently, the soda ash market has been fluctuating weakly, with most companies maintaining firm prices while a few have seen slight declines. Price adjustments have narrowed, and downstream demand remains tepid, though low-price stockpiling has increased. As soda ash plants gradually conclude their maintenance schedules, supply is expected to rise in the coming period. Lacking market drivers, prices continue to hover near the bottom. With the industry currently operating at a loss and corporate pressure mounting, limited downside for spot prices is anticipated.

Recent focus points for the soda ash market:

  1. Soda ash transaction volumes and pending orders.
  2. The impact of high freight rates on soda ash imports and exports.
  3. Downstream inventory levels and plant operation status.
  4. Maintenance schedules and production cuts at soda ash plants.
  5. Soda ash enterprise inventories and price adjustments.
  6. Futures price fluctuations and macro drivers.

Currently, plants that previously underwent maintenance have resumed operations, boosting supply. Some individual plants are undergoing maintenance or reducing output, which locally impacts production. Daily soda ash output now stands at over 105,000 tons. In the near term, few new maintenance plans have been announced, and most plants are operating normally. However, plants that were previously shut down or reduced output are unlikely to recover quickly.

  1. Plant fluctuations, with operating rates adjusting within a narrow range.

The weak soda ash trend reflects oversupply pressure from resumed plant runs. Downstream demand remains tepid, but low-price stockpiling offers some floor. I expect margin compression to continue until capacity utilizati..
