Pure Benzene Industry Chain Capacity Utilization Statistics (Apr 24–30, 2026)

Published on 2026-05-01
Product Current period Previous period Change Next-period direction
Styrene 71.79% 71.94% Down 0.15 percentage points
Phenol 84.50% 84.00% Up 0.5 percentage points
Caprolactam 74.59% 74.91% Down 0.32 percentage points
Aniline 86.37% 87.57% Down 1.2 percentage points
Adipic acid 72.50% 75.90% Down 3.4 percentage points

Petroleum benzene output was 400,800 tonnes, down 10,600 tonnes from the previous cycle, a change of -2.58%. Capacity utilization was 67.69%, down 1.79 percentage points from the previous cycle. During this period, units including the Shengxing reformer, BASF cracker, Taizhou reformer, and Zhoushan reformer underwent maintenance, while one CNOOC Shell cracking unit and other units were restarted. In addition, some enterprises adjusted their operating loads.

The operating rate of benzene hydrogenation units was 71.75%, up 0.74 percentage points from last week. China's hydrogenated benzene output this week was 95,200 tonnes, an increase of 1,000 tonnes from the previous week. During the week, Yunnan Dawei's unit was restarted, while Hebei Rongte reduced its load.

For styrene, Zhejiang Petrochemical's POSM unit was shut down for maintenance, but operating loads at some units in South China were raised. Owing to the combined effect of the shutdown and the load increases, overall supply changed little and only grew slightly, leading to a small rise in styrene output and capacity utilization. Domestic phenol/acetone and caprolactam units saw broadly stable operating rates. For aniline, Shanxi Tianji carried out rotating shutdowns; Jiangsu Yangnong shut down; and Jinling New Materials increased to full-load operation. For adipic acid, units at Shandong Haili, Liaoyang Petrochemical, and Tianli were shut down, as was one unit at Jiangsu Haili; Haoyuan units ran at around 80% load; Hengli units ran at around 80% load; some Huafeng units were shut down; Hualu's phase I adipic acid unit was shut down; and one 50,000-tonne/year unit at Shenma was shut down during the week, with the restart time to be determined.

In the next period, taking into account recent maintenance and restart activities, capacity utilization among pure benzene downstream sectors—including styrene, caprolactam, and aniline—is expected to increase.

Benzene chain stats show mixed downstream signals, with adipic acid’s sharp utilization drop outweighing phenol’s tick-up; hydrogenation gains suggest feedstock cost shifts. I expect near-term margin pressure on benzen..
