Petroleum benzene output was 419,000 metric tons, up 10,300 metric tons, or 2.52%, from the previous cycle. Capacity utilization was 69.63%, up 1.71 percentage points from the previous cycle. During the cycle, Shenghong Refining & Chemical restarted one catalytic reforming unit, one disproportionation unit, and other units, while some units that had been restarted earlier increased their loads.
The domestic operating rate for benzene hydrogenation units was 63.92%, up 0.22 percentage points from last week. China’s output of hydrogenated benzene this week was 84,800 metric tons, up 300 metric tons from last week. During the week, the Zhanhua Yukai unit was restarted, while Henan Yutian shut down one unit.
In the styrene sector, there were no newly added unit startups or shutdowns, although some companies made slight adjustments to unit operating rates, driving both total industry output and the operating rate modestly higher. A Shenghong Refining & Chemical unit was restored and restarted, while the phenol-acetone unit of Moyiwei Chemical (Shanghai) was shut down as planned. A 100,000-metric-ton/year unit at Nanjing Chemical was restarted and is currently running at low load. Shanxi Tianji experienced load fluctuations and is now running at full capacity. Dongying Caijin restarted and is now at full load. Jiangsu Yangnong returned to operation and is currently running at 50% load. Jilin Xuyang Connell saw load fluctuations; its two units are now running steadily. One major plant made minor load adjustments. Units at Shandong Haili, Jiangsu Haili, Liaoyang Petrochemical, and Tianli were shut down; Huafon shut down some units; Shenma shut down some units; Taihua’s unit is running at reduced load; and Haoyuan’s unit is operating at about 70% capacity.
