Using the delivered price in central Shandong as the benchmark, the price settled at 15,050 yuan/ton, up 750 yuan/ton from the previous working day. Today, the domestic butadiene market trended upward. Spot prices for synthetic rubber, the main downstream product, also moved up, and market sentiment warmed. Supplier auctions closed at premiums, which encouraged traders to actively hold prices firm and made them reluctant to sell. Rising actual transaction prices drove the market upward. However, follow-up buying by downstream enterprises for rigid demand gradually weakened, and a more cautious, wait-and-see attitude prevailed. Delivered prices in central Shandong were 14,950–15,150 yuan/ton, while ex-tank self-pickup prices in East China were around 14,600–14,700 yuan/ton.
On September 7, the domestic butadiene capacity utilization rate stood at 63.47%, up 0.02 percentage points from the previous working day. Regarding theoretical production margins, the Japanese naphtha market rose on September 4, while Sinopec lowered its butadiene price by 150 yuan/ton to 14,450 yuan/ton; the theoretical production margin for butadiene via C4 extraction improved, with the C4 extraction process margin calculated at 5,513.51 yuan/ton.
Price Forecast
In the short term, production units of enterprises in North China will remain shut down, so butadiene supply increases will be limited. Sellers are likely to keep offers firm and show little willingness to sell at lower prices. However, as reports of downstream operating rate cuts gradually emerge and production cost pressures continue to build, buying support is expected to remain moderate, which may temper some of the market's upside. The domestic butadiene market is expected to consolidate at high levels.
