One-Week Outlook for Butyl Acrylate

Published on 2026-09-28

I. Key Highlights

  1. The East China propylene market trended steadily higher. At the close, mainstream ex-tank prices in East China were reported at CNY 9,575/ton; Ningbo mainstream ex-tank prices stood at CNY 9,550/ton; and South Jiangsu delivered prices were referenced around CNY 9,800/ton. Crude oil rebounds prompted some producers to raise their offer prices, reducing the availability of low-priced cargoes. Downstream buyers purchased on demand, causing the transaction center to shift slightly upward within a narrow range.

  2. The Jiangsu n-butanol market was referenced at CNY 8,500–8,600/ton (ex-warehouse). The price center remained weak with a gradual decline. Market trading sentiment was average, while wait-and-see attitudes intensified. Downstream operators acted cautiously, showing reduced willingness to take delivery. Inquiries and transactions were somewhat sluggish.

2. Production profit margin is industry-level data, reflecting overall profitability in major regions, calculated as industry profit divided by price
3. The two periods refer to spot prices from the previous two working weeks prior to this week, not weekly averages
4. Change rate reflects the period-over-period fluctuation

IV. Market Outlook

Last week, the domestic butyl acrylate market consolidated at high levels before trending downward with fluctuations. Upstream propylene prices retreated from highs, and raw material n-butanol also declined amidst volatility. Cost support for butyl acrylate continued to weaken. Coinciding with the end of contract periods, holders maintained an active selling mindset, adjusting offers flexibly according to market conditions. Downstream buyers followed suit with on-demand purchasing, primarily focusing on consuming existing inventories. Stockpiling sentiment remained average, and the overall market transaction center drifted lower amid fluctuations. It is expected that n-butanol will continue to trade weakly with significant volatility today. The butyl acrylate market is projected to consolidate in a weak manner. Future attention should be focused on changes in market supply and downstream demand guidance.

Propylene rebounding while BA prices fall creates a painful margin squeeze for producers. With downstream demand remaining cautious, I expect weak consolidation continues as high capacity utilization meets sluggish order..
