Morning Market Briefing on Butyl Acrylate

Published on 2026-11-06

I. Key Focus Areas

  1. East China propylene market prices fell significantly. By the close, the mainstream price in East China was 11,200 RMB/ton (ex-works); Ningbo’s mainstream price was 11,400 RMB/ton (ex-works); and the delivered reference price in Southern Jiangsu was 11,200–11,300 RMB/ton. Overnight crude oil prices dropped sharply, causing PL futures to hit the daily limit down during trading hours, which severely dampened spot traders’ sentiment. Offers from regional enterprises were generally lowered, but downstream buyers remained cautious and watchful, resulting in very few actual transactions.

  2. The Jiangsu n-butanol market reference price stood at 8,550–8,550 RMB/ton (ex-works). Market prices continued to decline. Although falling propylene feedstock costs provided minor support to n-butanol prices, downstream operators remained cautious with increasing bearish sentiment, leading to sluggish inquiries and transactions.

Notes:

  1. Prices are quoted in RMB including VAT.
  2. The two periods refer to snapshot prices from the previous two working days.
  3. Changes reflect period-over-period fluctuations.

Yesterday, the domestic butyl acrylate market trended downward amid volatility. Propylene prices fell sharply, while upstream raw materials n-butanol and acrylic acid weakened concurrently due to cost pressures. High production costs continued to weigh on butyl acrylate margins. Holders maintained high offers, but the sharp drop in international crude oil prices affected trader sentiment, resulting in very few active inquiries from downstream users. Today, n-butanol is expected to remain weakly volatile with reduced cost support. Consequently, the butyl acrylate market is projected to continue its weak downtrend, with most downstream parties adopting a wait-and-see approach and negotiation centers shifting lower. Future attention should focus on market supply conditions and raw material price movements.

III. Data List

Metric Oct 29 Nov 5 Change Trend
Acrylic Acid Industry Capacity Utilization Rate 64.66% 65.98% +1.32% ↗
Butyl Acrylate Industry Capacity Utilization Rate 56.19% 59.28% +3.09% ↗

Notes:

  1. Capacity utilization rate reflects the ratio of actual output to installed capacity for producing enterprises, serving as an indicator of production levels.
  2. Production profit margin is industry-level data reflecting overall profitability in major regions, calculated as industry profit divided by price.
  3. The two periods refer to snapshot prices from the previous two working weeks prior to this week, not weekly averages.
  4. Changes represent period-over-period fluctuation rates.

With crude oil dragging down feedstock costs, butyl acrylate faces weak downstream demand. Despite slight margin improvements, the bearish sentiment and cautious buyers suggest limited upside potential in the near term.
