【Lead】China's pure benzene imports in July reached 403,100 tons, higher than the previously expected 370,000 tons. The increase in import volume, as well as the portion exceeding expectations, came mainly from India.
According to customs statistics, China's pure benzene imports in July 2026 totaled 403,133.482 tons, with cumulative imports of 2,668,193.57 tons. The import value for the month was USD 371.1318 million, and the average import price was USD 920.62 per ton. Imports rose 27.32% month-on-month but fell 20.62% year-on-year. Cumulative imports were down 17.61% from the same period last year.
Customs data show that China's pure benzene exports in July 2026 were zero.
According to customs data, among China's pure benzene imports in July 2026, 190,200 tons were imported from South Korea, down 0.83% month-on-month. Imports from South Korea accounted for 47.19% of the monthly total, down 13.39 percentage points from the previous month. This share falls within the normal range of 45–50% for South Korean pure benzene imports.
Among other source countries, China imported 56,000 tons from India in July, an increase of 29,800 tons from the previous month, making India the main contributor to the higher-than-expected import volume. Imports from Brunei reached 42,700 tons, Japan 35,900 tons, Thailand 20,100 tons, Singapore 18,800 tons, Vietnam 17,900 tons, and Indonesia 14,300 tons. Imports from Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries were below 10,000 tons each.
According to customs data, the main destinations for China's pure benzene imports in July 2026 were Zhejiang, Shandong, and Shanghai, with imports of 140,100 tons, 88,300 tons, and 71,100 tons, respectively. Other destinations included Hainan with 34,400 tons, Guangxi with 23,800 tons, Fujian with 15,800 tons, Guangdong with 9,000 tons, Tianjin with 6,300 tons, Hubei with 5,700 tons, Jiangsu with 5,700 tons, and Chongqing with 3,000 tons.
According to customs data, among China's pure benzene imports in July 2026, general trade was the main trade mode, with imports of 349,304 tons, accounting for 85.88%. The secondary trade mode was processing trade with imported materials, with imports of 53,800 tons, accounting for 13.35%. The increase in processing trade imports mainly came from Indian supply: 50,800 tons of Indian imports were used for processing trade, representing 90.71% of total imports from India.
July imports of 403,100 tons continued to recover from the low levels seen in May–June. With strong US octane demand and a long-open Asia–US arbitrage window, imports are expected to remain at around 400,000 tons per month from August to October.
