How is DMP positioned in the bird repellent market compared to methyl anthranilate?

How is DMP positioned in the bird repellent market compared to methyl anthranilate?
In bird repellents, methyl anthranilate (MA) has become the dominant active ingredient, prized for its exceptional safety profile—it occurs naturally in jasmine, orange leaf, and grapes, and the US EPA has exempted it from residue limits on all food crops. DMP, by contrast, is now mainly a synergist. Alone, DMP's bird repellency is limited, but combined with thiram or ziram at weight ratios from 4:1 to 1:20, it markedly enhances efficacy and persistence. It also pairs well with MA, cinnamaldehyde, camphor oil, and borneol for multi-mechanism action. DMP's advantages are its non-lethal mode of action, low toxicity to humans and animals, and suitability for open areas like airfields and large farms, especially when formulated in slow-release resin matrices to prolong activity.

For procurement teams, DMP's value is as a cost-effective booster rather than a standalone solution. Its synergy with thiram is well-documented, but formulators should test ratios carefully—the effective window is broad, and overuse raises costs without proportional gains in repellency.
